Ekiti State to upgrade roads and streetlights for economic and social development

The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved several projects to improve the quality and accessibility of roads and streetlights across the state.
The projects are part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s vision to boost the state’s economy and social activities.
One of the projects is the reconstruction of the Ikere-Igbara-Odo road, which links the state to Igbara-Oke in Ondo State.
The road is currently in a bad state and affects the performance of businesses in the area. The reconstruction will also provide easy access to the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti.
Another project is the installation of solar streetlight system on the new Ado-Iyin road, which connects the state capital to Iyin Ekiti. The solar system will replace the conventional streetlights that run on diesel generators, which are costly and harmful to the environment. A section of the road from the Government House junction up to the INEC office will be connected to the almost completed IPP station.
The Executive Council also approved the installation of solar streetlights on two other roads in Ado Ekiti: Omisanjana junction to Ajebamidele via Shepherd School and Mathew junction to Ajilosun via Agric Olope. These roads serve as alternative routes to key state facilities such as the Agric Olope market and Oba Adejugbe hospital. The streetlights will enhance security and economic development in these areas.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, announced these projects in a press briefing on Wednesday. He reiterated the commitment of the state government to collaborate with the federal government on maintaining and repairing federal roads in the state. He also said that the projects are part of the administration’s strategy to sustain a good state road network that would ease movement around the state.
