El-Rufai left Tinubu Specialist Hospital at 53% completion — Kaduna Govt clarifies

By Kunle Sanni –

The Kaduna State Government has refuted claims by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, stating that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital was only 53% complete when he left office in May 2023.

In a statement titled “El-Rufai and His Litany of Lies”, the government said the hospital had no medical equipment despite huge sums allegedly spent by the previous administration.

“Upon assuming office, Governor Uba Sani met the hospital at 53% completion. The structure had no medical equipment, despite the huge funds reportedly spent. The uncompleted facility had become a symbol of waste, mismanagement, and abandonment,” the statement said.

This response followed El-Rufai’s recent remarks claiming credit for projects commissioned by President Bola Tinubu during his visit to Kaduna, which the government described as “bare-faced lies” and an attempt to rewrite history.

Western Post had reported that President Tinubu commissioned the 300-bed specialist hospital inherited from past administrations.

Speaking on Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai insisted that most of the projects, including the hospital, were 90% completed before he left office.

However, the state government clarified that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital was originally initiated during the tenure of former Governor Namadi Sambo, a fact acknowledged by Sambo during the commissioning.

The statement added that Governor Uba Sani’s administration prioritised the completion and full equipping of the hospital, making it a key part of his healthcare revitalisation programme.
