Electricity: We are addressing the underlying problems, says Adelabu

The strategy adopted in solving the electricity challenges in Nigeria calls for going beyond temporary fixes to addressing the underlying problems, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said.

He made this clear at a recent meeting with members of the Forum of Commissioners of Energy in Nigeria.

The Minister disclosed that now that there is a diagnosis and a clear understanding of the root causes of the issues involved, attention is now being focused on implementation, emphasizing the government’s dedication to tackling the underlying issues confronting the power sector.

Adelabu stressed that the meeting with Nigeria’s Forum of Commissioners of Energy was a critical step in building strong cooperation between the Federal and State governments to achieve reliable power supply across the country. He highlighted plans to send mobile power substations to areas experiencing disruptions.

He urged State governments to take advantage of the new Electricity Act, noting the achievements of Abia State, where Geometric Power Limited built the 188-megawatt power plant that supplies various local government units with steady power, stressing “it is a model that other States can emulate with perseverance and determination.”
