Elegbeleye hails NPFL players’ inclusion in Super Eagles’ Unity Cup victory

Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, has described the involvement of players plying their trade in the domestic league in the Super Eagles’ Unity Cup triumph as a positive development for Nigerian football.

Elegbeleye, who also serves as the second Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), expressed delight over the inclusion and contributions of NPFL players to the Super Eagles’ victory in the tournament held in London, United Kingdom.

“As domestic league organisers, our objective is to develop local content, and I’m happy with the Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, for looking inward and selecting players from the league deemed worthy to make the team for the Unity Cup tournament,” he said.

“The players proved to be good ambassadors of the NPFL. They showed that the Nigerian league has both quality and talent.”

“Their performance will inspire other players in the league to embrace hard work and discipline, knowing that someone, somewhere — like Coach Chelle — is watching,” said the Ikare-Akoko-born politician and sports administrator.

“Such performances can only open more opportunities for players from our domestic league to feature in the senior national team,” he concluded.
