Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, has highlighted key reasons for the positive transformation of the league.
Under his leadership, the Nigerian topflight league has witnessed significant growth, earning the current NPFL board widespread accolades.
In a recent television interview, the former Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) attributed the league’s turnaround to determination, quality board members, and competent club managers.
The NPFL boss remarked:
“Managing any system in Nigeria is like managing human beings. If you want to manage human beings, you should be extra prepared and ready to face numerous challenges because sometimes you may have programmes that some people may not align with.
“As an administrator, you must be willing to go out of your way and apply the principle of give and take to actualize your dreams.
“When you are succeeding, some people may not be happy about it. As an administrator, you must be ready to confront challenges to achieve your goals,” he stated.
Speaking further, Elegbeleye, who also serves as the Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), attributed the improved standard of the league to capable and dedicated administrators now overseeing its operations.
“I can tell you that in the league today, we have more good people than bad. We have quality individuals working with me as board members, and we also have competent club managers in charge of the clubs. We are all on the same page,” said the Ikare Akoko-born politician and sports administrator.
