A former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mr. Alex Okoh, emphasized the importance of integrity and faith for graduates facing a complex and challenging world.

Despite the difficulties ahead, Okoh asserted that a combination of preparation, faithfulness, and unwavering commitment to doing what is right would pave the way for success.

Delivering a convocation lecture titled “Anchored in Faith: Succeeding with Integrity in a Competitive World” at the 16th convocation ceremony of Redeemer’s University in Ede, Osun State, Okoh acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead for the institution’s graduating students.

He noted that with their education, faith, and integrity, they are well-equipped to tackle the complexities of the modern world and achieve prosperity in their chosen endeavors.

Speaking on the real-world challenges they will face as they enter the professional sphere, he emphasized that both the global and Nigerian economies are in transition, with rising inflation and unemployment rates.

Okoh highlighted that inflation in Nigeria has surged past 34%, driven by food prices, fuel costs, and the removal of fuel subsidies. He also noted that youth unemployment rates hover around 33%.

He encouraged the graduates to see opportunities in entrepreneurship and self-employment, leveraging Nigeria’s potential in technology, agriculture, renewable energy, and creative industries.

Okoh advised graduates to be resourceful, innovative, and strategic in managing finances and business operations, emphasizing the importance of financial discipline and ethical decision-making.

As an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Okoh maintained that integrity in a competitive world is not a one-time achievement but a continuous process.

“Amidst temptations, God wants you to stand firm on what you know is right, and He requires you to succeed with integrity even in a predominantly secular world.”

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, congratulated the graduating class, urging them to apply their knowledge and skills to make a positive impact.
