Emergency responders avert disaster in Lagos pipeline blaze

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that the gas pipeline fire that erupted along Agege Motor Road, Ile Zik inward Agege, was successfully extinguished without any casualty.

The Head of Public Affairs at LASEMA, Mr Olawale Afolabi, disclosed this on Monday in Lagos, noting that the affected facility belonged to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.).

Afolabi said the LASEMA Eagle Response Team arrived at the scene at about 3:13 a.m. following distress calls received through the 767 and 112 emergency toll-free lines.

According to him, emergency responders met the gas pipeline engulfed in flames upon arrival, while the cause of the incident is yet to be determined.

He stated that no life was lost and no injury was recorded, attributing the successful outcome to the swift evacuation of residents and the immediate establishment of safety cordons around the affected area.

Afolabi explained that the inferno was brought under control through a coordinated response involving the LASEMA Response Team (LRT), LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) firefighters, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

“The gas pipeline valve was shut, while the inferno was successfully extinguished through the combined efforts of the LRT, LRU firefighters and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,” he said.

He added that the emergency operation had been concluded successfully, with all responders returning safely to base.
