Calvin Bassey scored on Sunday night as Fulham knocked out defending champions Manchester United to advance to the FA Cup quarterfinals.
The Nigerian international put Fulham ahead in the first half with a well-placed header.
However, United equalized, forcing the game into extra time, which remained goalless.
Fulham, who also featured Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi, then triumphed in the penalty shootout, winning 4-3.
Joshua Zirkzee, whose father is Nigerian, missed one of the penalties for United.
Youngster Chido Obi-Martin, who is eligible to play for Nigeria, was introduced late in the game but was denied a memorable moment by a crucial save from Fulham’s goalkeeper.
His battle with Bassey was also an intriguing aspect of the match.
