Eno calls for unity, warns against ethnic division in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged citizens to rise above ethnic sentiments and divisive tendencies, stressing the need for unity among the people.
Eno made the call on Friday while speaking on the second day of the 22nd Anniversary and Discovery Convention of the All Nations Christian Ministries International (ANCMI) in Eket.
The governor said the church was established to bridge ethnic divides and build a community of Christian believers that transcends race, tribe, colour and tradition.
He stressed that Akwa Ibom remained one state under God and urged citizens to avoid sentiments and utterances capable of creating division among the people.
Eno recalled the contributions of the old Ibibio Union, particularly its activities in Ikot Ekpene and its educational initiatives, which he said produced the “Merchants of Light” in the state.
He also encouraged Christians to become more involved in socio-political activities, describing as erroneous the belief that Christians should stay away from politics.
According to him, political decisions affect Christians, making their participation in politics necessary to influence policies and decisions for the overall good of society.
Speaking on the convention’s theme, “The God of All Possibilities”, Senior Pastor of Firstlove Assembly, Rev. Simeon Afolabi, identified faith, prayer and a godly foundation as major connectors to God, while Lead Pastor of HoneyStreams Christian Centre, Pastor Akomaye Ugar, urged Christians to reject negative patterns from previous generations and consciously shape their future.
