Enugu APC members endorse Mbah in mass turnout for governorship primary

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, is set to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket as party members turned out en masse across the state’s 260 wards on Thursday for the primary election, where he was the sole aspirant.

Although collation was still ongoing as of press time, Mbah is widely expected to emerge as the party’s candidate, with members citing his performance in the past three years as reason for their support.

At Owo Ward in Nkanu East Local Government Area, where the governor participated in the exercise, he was received by thousands of party faithful who affirmed his candidature with a loud “yes” when the panel put the question.

The panel comprised Prince Arinze Arum, Mrs. Ngozi Eni and Barr. Osinachi Nnajieze.

Speaking at the ward, the Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Mbah, and the member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, said the governor’s re-election was “sacrosanct,” describing him as a model for good governance.

“I have gone to vote in my own ward before coming here. The same thing that is happening here is happening across the 260 wards and reports are very good,” Nnaji said.

Governor Mbah said the direct primary exercise reflected internal democracy within the APC in Enugu State, noting that party members had consistently shown unity across various levels of the primaries.

He urged party members to sustain cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that divisions could weaken their chances at the polls.
