EPL: Manchester United claim commanding 4-1 win over Wolves
Manchester United moved into the Premier League top six with a commanding 4-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday. The win leaves United just a point shy of the top four, while Wolves remain anchored at the bottom of the table with only two points.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the 25th minute, before Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalised for Wolves in stoppage time of the first half. United quickly regained control after the break, with Bryan Mbeumo tapping in the second goal in the 51st minute, followed by Mason Mount’s 62nd-minute volley. Fernandes sealed the victory with a penalty in the 82nd minute.
The match highlighted United’s attacking strength despite the absence of some players bound for the Africa Cup of Nations. Wolves struggled to cope with United’s pace and precision, leaving fans frustrated as the team remained at the bottom of the league.
Wolves’ poor performance drew boos and chants from supporters demanding changes in club management, including calls for owner Jeff Shi to step down. Many fans left the stadium before the final whistle, reflecting their dissatisfaction.
United’s clinical display was complemented by smart substitutions, including Patrick Dorgu and Joshua Zirkzee, which helped maintain pressure on the struggling Wolves side. Fernandes’ penalty, awarded after a handball by Yerson Mosquera, underscored United’s composure under pressure.
The win at Molineux reinforces Manchester United’s resurgence in the league, while Wolves face a daunting run of fixtures, including an upcoming clash against league leaders Arsenal. The result offers little optimism for Wolves’ survival hopes this season.
Notable figures attended the game, including fans and observers from both clubs, highlighting the attention surrounding United’s recovery and Wolves’ struggles.
With this result, Manchester United consolidates its place among the league’s top contenders, while Wolves must urgently address their form to avoid a potential relegation battle.
