Ex-Lagos Lawmaker says Speaker Meranda is intelligent, a good listener

A former Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, described the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt (Hon) Mojisola Meranda as intelligent, and a good listener, adding that she had a good understanding of leadership and service as she is from a royal family.

He congratulated Meranda on her emergence as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Olorunrinu, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2019, congratulated Meranda while speaking with journalists in Lagos.

“We came into the Lagos Assembly together at the same time in 2015. As her colleague then, I can say she is very intelligent and that she is a good listener.

“She is reserved and doesn’t dabble into unnecessary issues.

“The new speaker is a very decisive person but flexible. She gives her opinion awesomely in legislative discussions.

“She will deliver and put the assembly where it ought to be. The people should be rest assured of impactful service,” the former legislator said.

Olorunrinu, an APC chieftain, expressed confidence that the new speaker would add value to the legislature and service to the people of the state.

He urged the Lagos Assembly to continue to fulfil the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

The former lawmaker also urged the new speaker to carry all the other 39 lawmakers along in all dealings and activities.

The erstwhile Speaker, Hon.Mudashiru Obasa (Agege 1), a sixth-term lawmaker, serving his third term as speaker, was on Monday removed by lawmakers.

Thirty-two (32) out of the 40 lawmakers, at an emergency plenary, impeached Obasa via voice votes, over alleged gross misconduct.

The House subsequently elected and swore in Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon. (Mrs) Mojisola Meranda (Apapa I) to replace Obasa, while Hon. Fatai Adebola (Ibeji-Lekki I) was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

The House also suspended the Clerk of the Assembly, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, indefinitely, during the plenary and dissolved all principal positions and standing committees.
