A former two-term member of the House of Representatives, Dada Awoleye, has officially declared his intention to contest the Oyo South Senatorial seat in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Announcing his ambition via a statement issued on Sunday, March 22, the former lawmaker described his relationship with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as personal and beyond politics, pledging to consolidate the governor’s achievements at the senatorial level.
Speaking on the reason for his aspiration, Awoleye noted that his ambition is driven by a desire to build on Makinde’s legacy through people-oriented policies and sustained grassroots engagement across the Oyo South Senatorial District, noting that the governor is a bridge between the old and emerging political order, whose pattern must be emulated to sustain current political development.
Reflecting on his time at the National Assembly, Awoleye highlighted his record of inclusive representation and improved federal presence in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, adding that he intends to replicate similar achievements if elected to the Senate.
As the current serving Chairman of the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, Awoleye reaffirmed his commitment to continued consultation with political leaders, party stakeholders, and grassroots communities across the district.
“I have always believed that leadership must remain close to the people. This next step is about expanding that commitment that has been tested and trusted twice at the House of Representatives to serve at a higher level,” he said.
Before his tenure at the National Assembly, Awoleye also served in the Oyo State House of Assembly, where he built a reputation for accessibility and constituency-focused representation.
