Ex-Ondo PDP media director hits back at party over resignation

By Boye Oyeyemi –
A former Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Leye Igbabo, has faulted claims by the party that he was offered a soft landing before resigning from his post.
WESTERN POST reports that the State Secretary of the party, Seye Olujimi, had said on Tuesday that Igbabo’s exit was part of efforts to inject fresh energy into the party, describing his resignation as a “mutually beneficial” arrangement.
But Igbabo, in a statement on Wednesday, dismissed the claim, warning that he should not be pushed into exposing what he described as alleged compromises and trade-offs by some leaders of the party in the state.
“I read a rebuttal as captioned above, over my resignation as the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP in Ondo State and signed by the State Secretary, Mr Oluseye Olujimi, claiming that the leadership purportedly extended to me ‘the option of an honourable resignation in a mutually beneficial manner’,” he said.
The former publicity director insisted that there was no such discussion before his resignation letter was submitted, challenging the party to produce evidence of such a meeting.
“For the sake of emphasis, I first tendered my resignation letter around October last year when I observed that the majority of the leaders were not faithful to the promotion, projection and success of PDP in Ondo State,” he said, adding that he only rescinded at the time after persuasion by party leaders.
Igbabo said he decided to quit again due to what he called the insincerity of some leaders and the refusal of the party to fund publicity, despite his personal sacrifices.
