Ex-PDP spokesman joins APC ahead of Ekiti governorship poll

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, a former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Raphael Adeyanju, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adeyanju announced his defection on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, saying the decision followed extensive consultations and personal reflection on Nigeria’s political direction.

He described the PDP as unstable and weakened by internal divisions, noting that the party no longer provides a credible platform for governance or national development.

According to him, persistent factional battles, leadership crises, and court cases have crippled the opposition party’s ability to manage its affairs.

Explaining his move, Adeyanju said the APC offers a more organised and disciplined structure capable of delivering effective governance at both state and national levels.

He added that aligning with the ruling party would position Ekiti to benefit more from federal presence and ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The former PDP spokesman also praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s leadership, describing it as calm, inclusive, and focused on development through the Shared Prosperity Agenda.

Adeyanju said his defection marks a commitment to active political engagement, pledging to support the APC’s programmes and contribute to its success in the forthcoming election and beyond.
