EXCLUSIVE: Comptroller-General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nana Nandap’s retirement falls due

…President Tinubu may appoint new CG

The Nigerian Immigration Service may soon have a new Comptroller-General as Mrs Kemi Nana Nandap, the current CG’s retirement is due, WESTERN POST can reveal.

Authoritative sources told the newspaper that following her service records, Nandap’s reitement fell due last Thursday, October 9, 2024 after spending 35 years in service.

But Nandap has been silent on the development while NIS officials are also maintaining the sealed lips.

The new Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, is also yet to comment on the matter.

Commissioned on 9th October 1989, Nandap completed her 35 years of service on the 9th of October, 2024, in accordance with the provision of the Public Service Rule 020908, which is applicabe to the NIS.

A member of the 22nd Basic Course of the NIS Training School, Kano, she rose steadily in the service and was appointed as Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) with effect from March 1, 2024.

As soon as she heeds her retirement, President Bola Tinubu may announce a replacement for Nandap.

Senior Immigration Officers that may be considered by government as replacement include several Deputy Comptrollers-General such as DCG AJ Umanah, DCG CM Dike, DCG DC Didel, DCG MT Umar, DCG A Ayeni and DCG BN Usman.

Due to the desire for a full tenure, the search for CGI may be extended to senior officers from the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General such as ACG C Nomhwange, ACG S James, ACG N Odikpo, ACG AM Shamsudden and ACG YL Shinkafi among others.

But the prerogative of appointment resides with President who may also decide to extend Nandap’s appointment for a period of three or six months as he did in respect of the immediate-past CG, Mrs. Caroline Wuraola Adepoju, who was first granted a three-month and later extended by another three months.
