EXCLUSIVE: Osinbajo unfolds presidential ambition to 10 APC governors

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Sunday night put paid to speculations that he would contest the 2023 presidency when he declared his aspiration before the All Progressives Congress Governors.

He had invited the 22 APC governors to Ramadan fast breaking dinner (iftar).

But to his chagrin, only 10 of the party’s governors attended the dinner at his State House Presidential Villa residence.

Osinbajo told the governors that his background as Commissioner and Attorney- General of Lagos State and as Vice President in the past seven years had properly groomed him for the office of president.

According to sources at the meeting, he also alluded to the fact that he has been Chairman of the National Economic Council and had also acted creditably in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He then sought for the support of the governors to make him succeed the president in 2023.

The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Governor of Kebbi, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, who spoke on behalf of the governors was non-committal in his response.

He said the governors had heard the Vice President and noted that as APC governors they would work to ensure the party retains power in 2023.

He then prayed that may God give the party the best candidate who would help retain the presidency and deliver for the people of the country.

WesternPost quoting Premium Times had earlier reported that Osinbajo would use the occasion of the Ramadan iftar to inform the APC governors of his decision to run for the nation’s number one seat.

According to the report the meeting with the APC governors was to herald Osinbajo’s official declaration to the public on Monday.

The VP is expected to release a video of his intention to run for presidency which will be syndicated across all his social media accounts on Monday.
