Why President Tinubu may not attend next week’s UN summit – Sources

Barring any last minute change, there are compelling reasons that President Bola Tinubu may not attend the next United Nations’ General Assembly, sources reveal.

After his recent official trip to China and the UK, President Tinubu does not want to travel again so soon, and would prefer to focus at home for the time being, to better address some of the nation’s pressing issues, sources told Empowered Newswire.

Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent the President at this year’s UN meeting, themed the Summit of the Futur.

The Office of the Vice President, who is anticipated to represent President Tinubu in New York early next week, is still awaiting an official statement, according to credible information.

A number of Federal Executive Council members—including the ministers of defense, foreign affairs, solid minerals, and the environment—have begun to make their way to the United Nations.

The United Nations General Debate, which brings together leaders of state and government every year for the General Assembly, will take place before the UN Summit of the Future.

The Summit of the Future: International Cooperation for a Better Tomorrow is the theme. The United Nations General Assembly, or UNGA, will host the General Debate on Tuesday, September 24, while the summit will take place at UN Headquarters in New York from Sunday, September 22 to Monday, September 23.
