As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the Lagos State Government on Thursday resolved to endorse legislative aspirants who are capable of effectively articulating the programmes and vision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels.

The decision formed part of the communique issued at the end of a three-day 19th Executive and Legislative Parley organised by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement at the Eko Hotels and Suites, themed “Equal Participation in Governance: Highlighting the Importance of Collaboration in Achieving the Present Administration’s THEMES+ Agenda.”

The parley was attended by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Dr Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, National Assembly members representing Lagos State, and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Others present included members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), leaders of the APC, chairmen of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LGAs/LCDAs), as well as top government officials in the state.

In the communique signed by the Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, the forum noted that its objective was to strengthen collaboration among the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government while addressing governance and policy implementation challenges.

One of the key resolutions adopted was the call for expedited action on the proposed establishment of a Lagos airline to further enhance the state’s economic prosperity and competitiveness.

The participants also urged all arms of government to deepen their working relationship through collaboration, coordination, communication, cooperation and consensus, while emphasising structured engagement between the state government and party structures to promote inclusion and grassroots participation in decision-making.

The parley further resolved to intensify voter mobilisation and awareness for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, strengthen synergy between the party and government ahead of the 2027 elections, and ensure early engagement with the legislature on appropriation matters, while also mandating the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement to organise a 20th edition of the parley to review stewardship before the end of the current administration.
