A fire broke out at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on Sunday night, following an explosion caused by some unknown assailants.
The attack happened at a time when some members of the state legislature were allegedly plotting to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Sources said that the attackers hurled an explosive device into the complex around 9:25pm, setting ablaze some properties inside the chamber.
It was learnt that some lawmakers in the state assembly had made arrangements to impeach the House leader, Eddison Ehie, who had been resisting moves to remove Fubara.
A visit to the assembly complex at about 10:30 pm reported that security operatives had taken over the area, with about 17 security trucks and one Armoured Personnel Carrier stationed at the entrance and surroundings.
