Ezekwesili tackles DSS, demands apology over Emefiele’s detention

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has demanded from the Department of State Services (DSS) an apology to Nigerians over the detention of former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele for six weeks without trail.
Emefiele on Tuesday at the federal high court was granted N20 million bail.
Ezekwesili after the ruling tweets, “DSS must immediately apologize to Nigerians for daring to take citizens for a ride on this Emefiele’s court case.
“So after all the monetary policy damage his boss, former president Muhmmadu Buhari and the former Central bank committed against the Nigerian economy and people, it is for “illegal possession of firearms” that State Security charged him to court?”
Justice Nicholas Oweibo had granted bail to Emefiele after listening to the submissions of his counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN).
President Bola Tinubu had suspended Emefiele as the apex bank chief on June 9, 2023.
A day after, the DSS confirmed that the embattled and suspended CBN chief was in its custody.
After several legal fireworks by Emefiele’s counsel challenging his prolonged detention by the DSS, the secret police bowed to pressure on July 13, 2023 and announced that the suspended apex bank chief has been charged to court.
