Fadahunsi apologises to Owa Obokun, seeks probe into killing of constituents

The senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Adenigba Fadahunsi has apologised for the tension surrounding remarks attributed to him during his campaign visit to the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, and called for investigations into the killing of his constituents.

Fadahunsi, in a statement issued after the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election, said he visited the monarch’s palace with his supporters to seek justice and express grief over the killing of members of his party.

The senator said his emotional appeal for justice had been misrepresented by critics as a call for violence, insisting that he never advocated chaos or disorder.

He, however, expressed gratitude to the Owa Obokun for his handling of the situation, saying the monarch demonstrated wisdom and leadership despite what some observers perceived as disrespectful remarks towards the traditional institution.

“I must specifically express my profound gratitude to our paramount ruler, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, for his exceptional leadership during that tense moment. Even though some observers mistakenly perceived some of my remarks as disrespect to the traditional stool, the Monarch showed true royal wisdom,” Fadahunsi said.

He apologised for the tension caused by the misunderstanding, stressing that the peace of Osun State and Ijesaland was more important than political disagreements, victories or defeats.

Fadahunsi acknowledged the APC’s defeat in the governorship election and urged the victorious party to govern inclusively while calling on politicians and their supporters to lower the tone of political rhetoric and embrace peace.

The senator also called on the Osun State Government and security agencies to investigate the killings of his constituents, saying he would continue to pursue legal justice for the victims regardless of their political affiliations.
