Fake soldier harassing residents of Ondo community arrested
By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Victor Ojukwu, for allegedly posing as a soldier and harassing residents in Idanre, Ondo State.
Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola said in a statement on Tuesday that Ojukwu, who lives in the Sunview area of Akure, was arrested on Monday, October 13, after credible intelligence led officers to his location.
The Divisional Police Officer in Idanre reportedly led the operation that resulted in Ojukwu’s arrest.
According to the police, items recovered from him included a fake military identity card, camouflage handkerchiefs, emblems, Nigerian flags with his photo, a horsewhip, and camouflage socks.
DSP Olayinka said the prompt response of the police team prevented further harassment of residents and helped restore public confidence in the area.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the act as a serious offence capable of undermining national security and eroding public trust in genuine security agencies.
He assured that the suspect would face prosecution after investigation, warning that the police would not tolerate any form of impersonation of security personnel in the state.
The CP urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and continue supporting the Command’s efforts to maintain peace and security across Ondo State.
