Residents of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State were thrown into panic on Monday evening when a malfunctioning petrol tanker caught fire.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. inside a mechanic workshop located near the Amotekun Corps office in Ore.

An eyewitness said the fire ignited while a mechanic was working on a faulty component of the tanker.

He confirmed that the tanker was not loaded with PMS, adding that the exact cause of the ignition had yet to be determined.

Thick smoke billowed across the area, forcing traders and shop owners to evacuate as the flames spread towards the workshop’s roof.

Emergency responders were alerted as residents stood at a safe distance watching the fire escalate.
