Fayemi calls for stronger investment in gender studies at University of Ilorin
Wife of former Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, has called for stronger investment in gender studies during the launch of the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Ilorin. The seminar, themed “Advancing Gender Equity for Inclusive Development,” was part of activities marking the university’s 50th anniversary.
In her keynote address, Fayemi emphasised the importance of linking theory with practice, applying intersectional analysis, and safeguarding feminist achievements. She highlighted that continued investment in gender studies centres is crucial for effective gender mainstreaming, capacity building, mentoring, and knowledge production.
Fayemi expressed her gratitude to Professor Folakemi Omojasola, Director of the Center, and Professor Bola Simeon-Fayomi, the chairman, for the invitation to the event, and commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, for his warm hospitality.
Beyond the seminar, Fayemi also participated in an interview with the University Radio alongside Professor Katarina Popovic from Serbia, another guest speaker at the event, further highlighting the significance of advancing gender equity in academic and societal development.
