Fayemi denies claims of secret meeting with Kwankwaso in Abuja

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has strongly denied reports suggesting he held a private political meeting with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence.

In a statement released by his media aide, Ahmad Sajo, Fayemi described the claims circulating on social media as a “blatant lie” and urged the public to disregard them. He noted that the report, shared by accounts including June 12 Movement and ADC Vanguard, used an old video of him greeting Kwankwaso out of context.

Fayemi clarified that he has met Kwankwaso only once in the past year—at the public book launch of former Attorney-General of the Federation Mohammed Bello Adoke. He stressed that he has not participated in, nor is planning, any closed-door political discussions with the former Kano governor.

The ex-governor emphasised that his friendship with Kwankwaso is personal and non-partisan, rooted in mutual respect and a shared interest in Nigeria’s development.

He also cautioned against attempts to politicise private relationships, highlighting that his network spans across the nation’s political spectrum, including individuals who are not politically active.

“At no time has Dr Fayemi held, or is he holding, any closed-door political meeting with Senator Kwankwaso as suggested by the post,” the statement concluded.
