Fayemi’s media office denies allegations, faults report on Senate proceedings

The media office of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State, has dismissed a report by The Cable alleging that Senator Cyril Fasuyi accused Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of previously accusing Fayemi of sexual harassment.

In a statement signed by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head of the Fayemi Media Office, the report was described as a misrepresentation of Senator Fasuyi’s actual comments during the Senate plenary.

According to the statement, Fasuyi merely referenced past defamatory claims made by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Fayemi regarding the Ajaokuta Steel Company when he served as Minister of Mines and Steel Development.

“At no point did Senator Fasuyi link Dr. Fayemi to any allegations of sexual misconduct. We are therefore at a loss as to how The Cable arrived at such a grave and unfounded assertion,” the statement read.

The media office further clarified that neither Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan nor anyone else has ever accused Fayemi of sexual misconduct. It emphasized Fayemi’s reputation for integrity in public service and rejected any attempt to associate him with baseless allegations.

The statement further refuted claims that Fayemi intends to submit a petition to the Senate regarding the matter, stressing that his past interactions with Akpoti-Uduaghan were strictly professional and centered on policy differences rather than personal disputes.

The Fayemi Media Office urged the media to uphold ethical journalism by verifying facts before publication, warning that sensationalism and misinformation could harm reputations and erode public trust.
