Fayose affirms commitment to PDP, cautions against party’s decline

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has raised the alarm over the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that the party could become a political “carcass” if decisive action is not taken to rescue it from its current state of decline.
Fayose, however, reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and ruled out any possibility of defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos on Monday night, Fayose explained that while he remains critical of governance when necessary, the current administration deserves commendation for its efforts in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
“There’s no miracle that can fix things overnight,” Fayose said. “But for the little the President has done, we must give credit. I criticized the last administration, but the situation now is different. The President is taking bold steps, especially on the economy and the currency.”
He stressed that his support for President Tinubu is not a recent development. “Even while I was Governor, I respected his leadership. As leaders, we must encourage what is right, regardless of party lines.”
On the wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, Fayose was emphatic: “I will never leave the PDP for any other party—not even the APC. I’m 65 this year. If I ever leave the PDP, it means I’m done with partisan politics.”
He acknowledged the crisis within the PDP, saying the party is in serious trouble. “If urgent action is not taken, the PDP will become a carcass. That is the hard truth.”
Responding to questions about his role in repositioning the party, Fayose noted that he is no longer in active frontline politics but had played his part during his tenure. “I was a vocal and committed opposition figure when I was Governor. Today, I offer support and speak the truth when needed.”
