Fayose expresses confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, commending his early efforts to stabilise Nigeria’s economy. Fayose, a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the remarks during a private visit to Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Monday.
Speaking with State House correspondents, Fayose praised the president’s commitment and leadership qualities, noting that his support transcends political affiliation. “For the little the president has done, we must commend him. No one is saying it’s easy. There’s no miracle that can turn things around overnight,” he said.
He drew comparisons with the previous administration, saying the current leadership was already showing encouraging signs. “I was once a strong critic of the past government, but you cannot compare the situation now,” he stated.
Fayose also recalled that his support for Tinubu predates his presidency. “Even while I was governor under the PDP, I never hid my support for Tinubu. I believed in his leadership long before he became president,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to support the president, stressing the difficulty of managing a country under economic strain. “It’s not easy to stabilise a failing economy. But today, we’re beginning to see signs of stability in both the economy and the currency,” he noted.
On the recent defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fayose was unequivocal about his own stance. “Let me be clear—Ayo Fayose will not join any political party, not even the APC,” he said.
The former governor emphasised that his decisions are guided by personal conviction rather than political convenience. “I am 65 years old, and I stand by my principles,” he added.
