Fayose reveals Makinde’s N10 billion offer to become Atiku Abubakar’s vice president
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose, has disclosed details of what he described as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s plan to become the vice-presidential candidate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The revelation comes following a high-profile meeting held in Minna, Niger State, which Fayose said focused on strategic discussions over the 2027 presidential race.
According to Fayose, the venue and participants were carefully selected to ensure confidentiality and trust. The discussions reportedly took into account that former Governor Peter Obi would neither accept a vice-presidential position under Atiku nor be acceptable to northern stakeholders as Atiku’s successor.
Fayose added that Atiku is reportedly 70% certain of securing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket, following the party’s decision to allow non-zoning of its nomination.
The former governor said Makinde agreed to join the ADC on the condition that he would be presented as Atiku’s running mate, a proposal expected to be submitted to Atiku’s inner caucus for further discussion and ratification.
Makinde is also said to have pledged an initial contribution of N10 billion, to be released in two tranches, to support the “proper take-off” of the ADC, with additional funds to be made available once the campaign officially begins.
Fayose revealed that Makinde assured full mobilisation of Southwest delegates for the ADC primary and plans to leverage the influence of his wife, a native of Rivers State, to secure votes in the South-South region.
The former governor alleged that Makinde believes his involvement could strategically divide Southwest votes, giving the ADC a competitive edge in the general election.
A follow-up meeting between the parties has reportedly been scheduled to hold in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the next two weeks.
