FCCPC congratulates Professor Tunde Akanni on SPSP fellowship

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has congratulated Professor Tunde Musibau Akanni on his recent investiture as a Fellow of the Society of Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP).

The commission conveyed the congratulatory message in a letter dated October 7, 2026, signed by its Head of Department, Administration, Yisau Adepoju, on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tunji Bello.

The FCCPC described the recognition as a well-deserved honour and a testament to Akanni’s contributions to journalism, particularly his commitment to conflict-sensitive journalism and development communication.

According to the commission, Akanni has consistently demonstrated passion for conflict-sensitive journalism, which it described as a strand of development communication that promotes sustainable social change and improves the quality of life, particularly in developing countries.

The commission said the honour was timely and richly deserved, given Akanni’s record as an accomplished academic and professional, adding that it was pleased to share the joy of the achievement with him and his family.

Akanni is a professor of journalism in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Lagos State University, where he teaches and conducts research in journalism, media studies, development communication, political communication, media ethics, conflict communication and strategic communication.

Before joining academia, he worked in Nigeria’s print media industry and has continued to combine professional journalism with academic research, public commentary and the training of communication professionals. He is currently on sabbatical with the FCCPC, where he contributes to strategic communication, public engagement and institutional communication.

An alumnus of the British Chevening Scholarship programme and the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, Akanni has also undertaken specialised training in development studies and human rights advocacy.
