FCT removed from Treasury Single Account to accelerate development – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to remove the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), stating that the move was necessary to fast-track development and improve governance in the capital.

Speaking on Sunday during a Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu explained that the bureaucratic constraints of the TSA had slowed down infrastructure projects in the FCT, prompting the government to take action.

The delegation of FCT residents was led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The President noted that since the exemption from the TSA, the FCT has witnessed rapid infrastructure development, enhanced healthcare services, and improved security measures.

“I remember when the FCT Minister came to me and requested that we be removed from the TSA to enable him to achieve more. He presented his vision and plans, and I saw the need for change. Now, we are witnessing progress—the opening of rural areas, the revival of abandoned projects, and the completion of the Vice President’s official residence, which had been left unfinished for years,” Tinubu said.

He also praised Wike for restructuring the FCT’s public service, allowing civil servants to rise to higher positions and contribute more effectively to governance.

“We can now celebrate the innovative ideas that have transformed the FCT,” the President added.
