The agrarian community of Ikakumo Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State is in the grip of fear, following an attack on a farmer by suspected herdsmen.

The incident involved a 40 years old farmer, Mr. Idowu Bayode, who was allegedly macheted by two herdsmen in his cashew farm.

Narrating to Westernpost how it all happened on his hospital bed, the victim said that he went to his cashew plantation and met two Fulani already plucking the cashew nuts into sacks.

He added that on sighting him, he was attacked with cutlasses while he cried for help.

Bayode said his brother later came and saw him in a pool of blood as the herdsmen inflicted deep cuts on him.

Chairman of Ikakumo Development Council, Mr. Festus Omogboye said the town is under siege as people can’t go to their own farms or markets for fear of being attacked by the Fulani hoodlums.

Another community leader, Prince Foluso Aminu condemned the incident, calling on the state government to beef up security in the area, being a border town with Edo State.

The Ikare Divisional Police Officer Ikare (DPO), Mr. Olatujoye Akinwande, who confirmed the incident, said one person has been arrested in connection to the attack.
