A member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, Davidson Akinlayo, has denied allegations linking him to sponsoring political thugs ahead of the All Progressives Congress primary election in Ekiti State.
The allegation followed claims by the Ekiti State Police Command that some suspects arrested over alleged plans to disrupt the APC primary reportedly confessed to working for the lawmaker.
Reacting to the development, Akinlayo described the allegation as false and politically motivated, insisting that it was aimed at damaging his reputation before the party’s internal election.
“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and baseless allegation that Hon. Akinlayo Kolawole Davidson is sponsoring thugs to disrupt the forthcoming APC primary election,” the statement said.
The lawmaker maintained that he had always supported peaceful and transparent electoral processes, adding that he had never been involved in acts capable of causing violence within the party.
“We wish to categorically state that this allegation is entirely false, misleading and the handiwork of desperate political detractors,” the statement added.
Akinlayo also urged party members and supporters to ignore the claims, describing them as attempts to create tension and confusion within the APC ahead of the primary election.
He further called on security agencies to investigate individuals spreading falsehood capable of disrupting the electoral process, while urging his supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
