The Federal Government, through the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP), has launched a pilot feeding programme at Jere Tsangaya School in Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The programme, attended by the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu; key government officials; development partners; and community stakeholders, highlights President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling child hunger, enhancing education, and supporting vulnerable communities.
The event, held on Wednesday in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area, marks the pilot phase of the RH-NHGSFP model in partnership with the Aminu Musa Abdulsalam (AMA) Foundation and the Kaduna State Government.
The initiative aims to ensure that more children in Tsangaya schools and underserved communities benefit from sustainable, nutritious feeding interventions.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Sununu disclosed that over 785 pupils from the institution have been enrolled and captured in the National Register. He commended the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme for fostering collaboration among intergovernmental agencies.
He stated: “Mr. President’s vision is to ensure that families have enough support to enable them to focus on their daily activities and contribute positively to national development. In this regard, our ministry is fully prepared to address this challenge.
“Let me assure Nigerians that the suspension placed on all social intervention programmes due to recent developments in the ministry has now been lifted by Mr. President.
“I also want to reassure all beneficiaries that their entitlements will be settled soon. The grants for vulnerable groups and other social interventions, such as the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, will not only be reinstated but also improved to ensure broader impact.
“Our goal is to restore public trust through transparency and accountability, both nationally and internationally, so that we can effectively reach those in need.”
Earlier, the National Programme Manager of the RH-NHGSFP, Dr. Aderemi Adebowale, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing the next generation by investing in their well-being and education.
“As we launch this enhanced feeding programme, we are not just providing meals; we are securing the future of our children. The success of this initiative is a testament to what we can achieve through collaboration, dedication, and a shared vision,” she said.
Dr. Adebowale also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction for championing the initiative, as well as to the National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Prof. Badamasi Lawal, for steering the agency toward achieving President Tinubu’s vision for vulnerable citizens.
She acknowledged the support of the Almajiri Commission, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the National Orientation Agency, and other key stakeholders.
She further commended the Aminu Musa Abdulsalam Foundation for its significant contributions, which included constructing a modern kitchen, providing cooking utensils for 1,000 pupils, installing a water supply system, donating footwear, and offering medical care support for students.
She further praised the RH-NHGSFP team and its consultant, TANTACOM Experiential Projects Ltd, for their strategic coordination and execution of the initiative. She also recognized the dedication of the headmaster, teachers, community leaders, parents, and cooks in ensuring the programme’s successful implementation.
