The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the release of funds for the completion of two major infrastructure projects: the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway and the construction of the Bodo-Bonny Road, including bridges across the Opobo Channel in Rivers State.

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, made this announcement during a meeting with representatives of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to a statement by Orji Uchenna, Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister, the construction firm was urged to fast-track its work on the 82-km Section II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano project and mobilize resources for the Bodo-Bonny Road.

The minister revealed that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the re-scoping and downward review of the Abuja-Kano dual carriageway project, revising the contract sum to N740.8 billion.

The Bodo-Bonny Road project has been augmented to N80.1 billion. Engr. Umahi emphasized that Julius Berger must complete the Abuja-Kano project within 14 months and ensure timely delivery despite economic challenges.

The minister also urged the construction giant to avoid seeking price increases, warning that failure to adhere to the agreed terms could result in contract termination.

He further stressed the need for Julius Berger to mobilize resources at multiple locations to expedite the projects. For the Bodo-Bonny Road, Julius Berger is expected to complete the work within 12 months, with a fixed contract sum of N280 billion.

The meeting concluded with the formal handover of letters of award for the reviewed contracts, signaling the government’s commitment to timely project delivery.
