FG approves Oko-Olowo Flyover as AbdulRazaq flags off construction of Ojoku–Ilemona Road

By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin –

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Thursday disclosed that the federal government has approved the construction of a flyover at Oko-Olowo in Kwara State, potentially ending years of fatal accidents along the busy corridor.

This development came as Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, flagged off the construction of the 15.1km Ojoku–Ilemona Road in Oyun Local Government Area. The governor said the project aligns with his administration’s commitment to open up communities for economic growth and enhance travel experience across the state.

AbdulRazaq noted that his administration has delivered over 100km of roads in Kwara South alone, in addition to other projects in the health, education, water, and social protection sectors.

He added that the government is currently constructing or set to award additional road projects spanning about 109km in the region, including those under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

The governor urged residents to continue supporting the administration and to take ownership of public infrastructure to ensure their sustainability.

The flag-off event also featured an inspection of the Eiyenkorin–Afon–Ojoku–Offa Road by the governor, Minister Umahi, and a delegation from the BUA Group, led by its Group Executive Director, Alhaji Kabir Rabiu. The 42.6km road, handled by BUA, links Kwara Central to Kwara South and Osun State, reducing travel time to about 30 minutes.

Both the governor and the minister commended the quality of work done on the road. Umahi said the road should last between 50 and 100 years. AbdulRazaq also reminded the minister of the need to expedite work on the dualisation of the Ilorin–Lokoja Road, as well as the completion of the Share–Patigi Road and Moro Bridge, which he described as critical to the people of the state.

Speaking separately, the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Adesoye Adebowale Jimoh, and the Olojoku of Ojoku, Oba Abdulrazaq Adegboyega Afolabi, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his developmental strides, noting that the new road would accelerate growth and positively impact their communities.
