The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on Turkish Airlines to consistently respect Nigerian passengers.
This statement was made during a meeting on Wednesday with a high-level delegation from Turkish Airlines, including the airline’s Vice President in Charge of Africa, Hilemet Mesut Turkseven, and senior representatives from Lagos, Abuja, and the Turkish embassy.
In a press release issued by Tunde Moshood, the Minister’s special assistant for media and communications, Keyamo addressed reported instances of passenger disrespect, emphasizing the need for high standards of customer service and dignity.
The Turkish Airlines delegation conveyed the regards of their CEO, Bilal Eksi, and expressed gratitude for Keyamo’s intervention during recent union disruptions. Vice President Turkseven reiterated the airline’s commitment to Nigeria, noting their 18 years of service since 2006, and praised Nigerians for their support.
Keyamo assured the delegation that there would be no further disruptions to their operations, as the issue is currently before an industrial court. He criticized the airline’s communication during the union actions, attributing problems to the country manager’s attitude.
The Minister outlined three key demands to Turkish Airlines including aircraft upgrades, transit visa and support for local caterers.
Deputy Chief of Mission of Turkey, Imdat Karakoc, assured the Minister that these issues would be discussed with Turkish authorities, committing to necessary adjustments and improvements in aircraft quality.
“This meeting signifies a positive step towards strengthening the relationship between Turkish Airlines and the Nigerian aviation sector, ensuring better service and mutual respect for all passengers,” Karakoc stated.
