The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will on Wednesday unveil a signed agreement aimed at improving industrial harmony and strengthening Nigeria’s university system.
The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for January 14, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Maitama, Abuja.
The event will be presided over by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad. Senior government officials, ASUU leaders, heads of tertiary institutions, development partners and members of the media are expected to attend.
Officials said the agreement is the outcome of sustained negotiations between the federal government and ASUU, and is designed to address longstanding industrial concerns, improve teaching and learning conditions, and promote stability within public universities.
The government noted that the agreement highlights its preference for dialogue and cooperation in resolving industrial disputes in the education sector.
It is expected to enhance industrial peace, create a more conducive academic environment, and boost confidence among students, academic staff and other stakeholders.
Authorities assured that further details of the agreement would be made public during the unveiling ceremony, while Nigerians were encouraged to follow official channels of the Ministry of Education for updates from the event.
