FG boosts morale of Nigeria’s Paralympic team with improved bonuses
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an increase in the winning bonuses for the country’s athletes participating in the upcoming 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France, set to begin on August 28, 2024.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, during an interactive session with the Nigerian para-athletes at their training camp in Saarbrucken, Germany. The Minister revealed that the new bonus structure will provide $15,000, $10,000, and $5,000 for Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal winners, respectively. This represents a substantial increase from the bonuses awarded during the recent Olympic Games, where Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists received $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000, respectively.
Senator Enoh highlighted that this increase is part of the Federal Government’s effort to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices, dedication, and commitment of the athletes who strive to represent Nigeria on the global stage. He encouraged the athletes to view this gesture as a morale booster that aims to reinvigorate their competitive spirit, awaken their patriotism, and give them the motivation needed to achieve success.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s recent performance at the Olympic Games, the Minister urged the Paralympians to bring pride and joy back to the country. “The country, as it is now, is not in a happy mood, and I need all of you to see yourselves as the ones who will bring back joy,” Senator Enoh stated.
With these enhanced bonuses, the Federal Government aims to inspire the Nigerian Paralympic team to deliver exceptional performances and bring home medals from Paris 2024.
