FG charges new radiographers board registrar to digitise practice

The federal government has directed the newly appointed registrar of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), Idris Garba, to prioritise the digitalisation of the profession and intensify efforts to eliminate quackery in radiographic practice.
The minister of state for health and social welfare, Iziaq Adekunle Salako, gave the directive while presenting Garba with his letter of appointment at a ceremony in Abuja.
Salako said the digitalisation of the profession is critical to improving healthcare delivery and would help authorities identify licensed radiographers practising within and outside Nigeria, as well as expose unregistered practitioners.
He stressed that strict enforcement of professional ethics and decisive action against quackery would be key priorities for the new registrar.
The minister also commended the panel that oversaw the selection process leading to Garba’s appointment, describing the exercise as rigorous and transparent. He urged the new registrar to deploy his experience to strengthen the board and contribute to the broader development of the health sector.
Salako further advised him to sustain the achievements of his predecessor and promote a harmonious working relationship between the regulatory body and professional associations in the field.
Responding, Garba, a scholar from Bayero University Kano, expressed appreciation for the appointment and pledged to operate an open-door policy while strengthening the board’s operations.
He said one of his immediate priorities would be building a comprehensive database of radiographers and medical imaging centres across the country to enable effective monitoring and regulation of the profession.
