FG commences process to evacuate Nigerians from Lebanon
The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced arrangement for evacuation of Nigerians living in Lebanon, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.
According to the agency, the exercise is for Nigerians who are willing to return home, following the crisis situation in the country.
The action follows the Nigerian Government’s convocation of ‘a multi-stakeholders meeting where briefs were received on the condition of Nigerians in Lebanon and preparations by various Agencies towards the success of the evacuation exercise.’
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is in charge of organizing the evacuation, which began with the people’ mobilization and will be promptly followed by the fulfillment of all requirements to return them home.
In a phone call, the head of the Nigerian community praised the Nigerian Mission’s assistance in Lebanon, particularly with regard to their safe evacuation from high-risk regions.
So far, no Nigerian lives have been lost.
According to NEMA, Nigerians who are willing to be evacuated back home are advised to report to the Embassy in Beirut, where they would be profiled for the airlift, in light of the upcoming voluntary evacuation.
