The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted widespread online claims alleging the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) due to mass examination malpractice.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, July 20, 2025, and signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, the Ministry described the reports as “entirely fabricated, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary panic and confusion.”
“The 2025 WAEC Examinations have been successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice reported, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities,” the statement read.
The Ministry also clarified that the ongoing NECO examinations are progressing smoothly, and no cases of examination malpractice had been reported as of the time of the release.
It further stated that no official communication or report of widespread malpractice had been received from WAEC, NECO, or any other examination body.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the credibility of public examinations, the Ministry warned individuals and groups against spreading false information, noting that such actions would be reported to the appropriate security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
Students, parents, and school administrators were advised to rely only on verified sources for accurate information. The Ministry listed its official website, as well as those of WAEC and NECO, as trusted channels.
