FG donates N30M to family of late Nigerian flag designer

The Federal Government has honored the late Taiwo Akinkunmi, designer of Nigeria’s national flag, with a donation of N30 million to his family in recognition of his contribution to national unity and identity.
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, presented the cheque during a visit to the Akinkunmi family in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He described Akinkunmi as a legendary patriot whose iconic design remains a symbol of Nigeria’s unity and heritage.
“The donation is not a payment for the services of the late legend but a gesture of appreciation for his invaluable contributions to the country,” Issa-Onilu stated.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Akinwunmi Akinkunmi expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the NOA for the financial support, describing the initiative as a commendable act that would serve as a morale booster.
The NOA Director-General was accompanied on the visit by officials from the agency’s Oyo State directorate.
