FG issues security advisory to Nigerians in Iran, other Gulf states

The federal government says it is closely monitoring the rising tensions in the Middle East and has consequently issued a security advisory to Nigerians in the Islamic Republic of Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries.

In a press release on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government said it is closely monitoring the evolving and volatile situation in the region.

The government referenced reported military actions undertaken by Israel and the United States against targets in Iran, as well as subsequent retaliatory actions by Iran affecting some Gulf countries.

According to the Ministry, the heightened state of tension and the potential for further escalation necessitated the issuance of the advisory to safeguard Nigerian citizens in the affected areas.

The government urged Nigerians in Iran and neighbouring Gulf states to remain extremely vigilant and security-conscious at all times. Citizens were advised to avoid strategic locations such as military and government installations, which could become potential flashpoints.

The Ministry also strongly recommended that Nigerians restrict non-essential movement and travel within the affected countries until the security situation becomes clearer and stabilises. Large gatherings and public demonstrations should be avoided, the statement added.

In addition, Nigerians were advised to strictly comply with all safety and security directives issued by local authorities, stressing that cooperation with local law enforcement agencies is critical to ensuring personal safety.

The Ministry further encouraged citizens to stay informed through reliable local and international news sources and to rely on official communication channels for accurate and timely updates, warning against the dangers of misinformation.
