The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lagos State Government to transform Epe General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

The agreement, signed during the Lagos State 2024 Trauma Conference, marks a significant step in enhancing healthcare services for the growing population of Epe and surrounding communities.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, who spoke at the event, emphasized that the project is a direct result of a request from the Lagos State Governor and reflects President Bola Tinubu’s vision of providing quality healthcare for all Nigerians. “Epe’s strategic location and expanding population have made this decision necessary,” Alausa said. “Our people deserve access to the best healthcare services, and today, we are taking major strides to ensure that.”

The new FMC Epe will offer a wide range of specialized medical services, including pediatric care, advanced surgical care, cardiology, obstetrics, and a state-of-the-art emergency and trauma center.

Over the next two years, the facility will be equipped with cutting-edge medical technologies and services, such as open-heart surgeries, dialysis, CT and MRI scans, and burn and plastic surgery.

In addition, a Nursing School will be established at the medical center, with enrollment starting next year to train nurses and midwives, further boosting healthcare capacity in the region.

The establishment of the FMC in Epe is also connected to the creation of the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (FEDCAM) at Ilara Igboye. FEDCAM students will use the hospital for clinical training in acupuncture, herbal medicine, chiropractic medicine, and more.

Dr. Alausa expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and other key stakeholders, including Lagos State health officials and the traditional leaders of Epe, for their support in making this project a reality. “Together, we will ensure that every Lagosian and Nigerian has access to comprehensive and meaningful healthcare,” he said.
