FG lauds Kwara govt for transparency, financial management at FAAC retreat

The Kwara State Government received high praise from the Federal Government on Thursday for its transparency in handling public funds and adherence to the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

The commendation came from the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, during the 44th Retreat of the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC)’s Sub-committee on IPSAS Implementation in Ilorin.

Dr. Madein highlighted Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to public financial management, noting that his administration serves as a model for others.

“Our choice of Kwara for this retreat is based on the exemplary performance of the state government, which has been transparent in its account reporting system,” she stated. “Kwara has been outstanding among other states in being compliant with IPSAS.”

The Accountant General emphasized that the retreat aimed to review the performance of Nigeria’s three tiers of government concerning IPSAS compliance, expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far. “IPSAS enhances government accountability and transparency globally,” Dr. Madein noted. “We are happy with the progress recorded by the three tiers of government in this regard.”

Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by his Special Adviser and Counselor Alhaji Sa’adu Salau, attributed the state’s progress on IPSAS to hard work, resilience, and support from public officers and stakeholders.

He emphasized that the implementation of IPSAS has improved the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting, thereby enhancing decision-making processes and public trust.

“Our commitment to IPSAS reflects our dedication to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public financial management,” the Governor said. “Despite challenges, our prudent management of public resources has enabled us to achieve notable milestones.”

State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, expressed pride in the administration’s high rating for IPSAS compliance, thanking the Governor for his support.

The retreat drew dignitaries, government officials, and financial experts from within and outside the state, including Alhaji Bashir Adigun, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Ibrahim Danmeiromu, Senior Special Assistant on Religion (Islam), and AbdulGaniyu Sani, the State’s Accountant General.
