FG lists 65 investment opportunities, pledges single-digit inflation

Nigeria has unveiled more than 65 investment opportunities across key sectors of the economy, seeking to attract long-term foreign capital as the Federal Government pursues reforms to boost growth, create jobs and reduce inflation.

The investment drive was presented by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, at an investors’ forum on the sidelines of the ongoing International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

The International Monetary Fund, meanwhile, advised Nigeria against reinstating broad-based petrol subsidies, recommending targeted assistance to vulnerable households to cushion the impact of rising energy prices.

Oyedele said the government was prioritising investments in productive sectors that could expand domestic production and generate employment rather than relying excessively on short-term portfolio inflows into financial markets.

He said the opportunities covered oil and gas, electricity, transportation, maritime services, agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, mining, technology, healthcare and urban services.

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing inflation to single digits, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s growth prospects.

He stressed the need to create decent and sustainable jobs, noting that the country’s official unemployment rate of about five per cent coexisted with a poverty rate exceeding 50 per cent.

According to him, the figures underscore the need for economic policies that translate growth into improved living standards and productive employment.
