FG, MDGIF, Femadec to establish CNG conversion centres in 20 federal institutions

The Federal Government, through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), is partnering with Femadec Energy to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centres and refuelling stations in 20 federal tertiary institutions nationwide.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to clean and cost-effective energy solutions under his Renewed Hope Agenda. It aims to ease transportation costs for students and lecturers while advancing Nigeria’s transition to cleaner fuel alternatives.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, recently met with Vice-Chancellors and executives from Femadec Energy, MDGIF, and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) to finalise implementation plans.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Alausa highlighted the project’s impact, stating, “This initiative not only aims to reduce transportation costs for our students and lecturers but also represents a pivotal step towards integrating clean energy solutions within our educational institutions.”
A representative from Femadec Energy emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, noting that the partnership with MDGIF and federal institutions would introduce CNG infrastructure that provides cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation options.
The project is expected to address rising transportation expenses in educational institutions and serve as a model for expanding CNG adoption across the country. It leverages Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources to promote cleaner and more affordable mobility solutions.
As part of the rollout, six institutions are scheduled to have fully operational CNG facilities by May 29, 2025, marking the first phase of implementation.
The government and its partners believe this initiative will not only ease financial burdens on students and lecturers but also foster a culture of innovation and sustainability within the academic community.
