FG mourns Nigerian medical graduate killed in Russian attack on Ukraine

The federal government has expressed grief over the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Nnani Adaobi Marian, who was killed after sustaining injuries in a Russian aerial attack on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
In a statement on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the deceased was a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University and died from injuries suffered during the attack.
The ministry conveyed the Federal Government’s condolences to her family and disclosed that Nigerian diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany were working to verify details surrounding the incident while providing consular assistance.
“The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian and is in contact with our Missions in Ukraine and Germany to verify details and provide the necessary consular assistance,” the statement said.
The ministry also renewed Nigeria’s call for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine, stressing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the protection and welfare of Nigerians living abroad, adding that it would continue to monitor developments closely and provide all necessary support through its diplomatic missions.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 after years of tensions that escalated following Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. The war has since become Europe’s largest armed conflict in decades, with sustained missile and drone attacks, heavy fighting across several regions, and thousands of civilian casualties and displaced persons.
